Priyank Kharge Asks BJP to Keep RSS Registration Papers Ready After Threat Allegations

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has renewed his attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) , asking the BJP to tell its “political superiors” to keep their registration documents ready while alleging that supporters linked to the organisation were behind online abuse and death threats directed at him.

In a post on X, Kharge said the BJP's “fear and anxiety” had become evident within 48 hours of his assuming office as Home Minister. He accused the party of using the RSS to intimidate him and referred to the organisation as a “body of individuals” , urging it to prepare its registration papers.

The remark referenced comments made by Mohan Bhagwat in November 2025. The RSS chief had said courts and the Income Tax Department recognise the RSS as a body of individuals, making it eligible for income-tax exemption , after Congress leaders questioned why the organisation operates without formal registration.

Kharge has repeatedly challenged the RSS's legal status and funding transparency, arguing that organisations receiving donations should be registered and accountable under the law.

The controversy follows the arrest of Sudhir Bangera , a 48-year-old resident of Kervashe village in Udupi district, for allegedly posting casteist remarks and issuing threats against Kharge on Facebook. Police said the accused posted abusive comments, including an alleged threat interpreted as “time to finish you off”.

A case was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act , and the accused was produced before a court.

The issue has triggered a fresh Congress-BJP confrontation , with BJP leaders defending the RSS and questioning Kharge's demand. The RSS leadership has not yet issued a detailed response to his latest remarks.
