Priya Cruises to Victory, Jadumani Battles Hard at Asian Boxing Championships

India’s Priya registered a commanding 5-0 victory, while Jadumani Singh narrowly lost in a closely contested bout on the second day of the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 here on Tuesday.

In the women’s 60kg category , Priya outclassed Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volossenko in a unanimous decision, displaying control and composure throughout the match. She will next face second-seeded Yang Chengyu of China in the upcoming round. Although Priya has not yet secured a medal at this championship, her performance keeps her in strong contention.

In the men’s 55kg category , Jadumani Singh went down 2-3 in a split decision against Japan’s top seed Rui Yamaguchi , a seasoned competitor with a silver medal from the Astana event and a bronze at the Boxing World Cup Finals. Jadumani pushed Yamaguchi punch for punch, making it one of the closest bouts of the day, but ultimately fell short.

On Monday, India’s Preeti Pawar and Deepak won their respective first-round bouts, while Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) and former world champion Nikhat Zareen (51kg) were granted byes in their opening matches.

The quarter-finals of the championships are scheduled to begin on Wednesday. India has sent a 20-member squad , with boxers reaching the finals in approved weight categories set to earn direct qualification for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games .

This edition of the Asian Boxing Championships features 194 boxers , including over 20 Olympians , from 21 national federations , highlighting the competitive strength of the tournament.

Priya’s clinical win and Jadumani’s valiant effort underline India’s growing presence in continental boxing. The upcoming rounds are expected to be crucial as India aims to secure medals and qualify for major multi-sport events.
