The Punjab government has announced a significant reform in the education sector by raising the quota for promotions to the post of school principal from 50% to 75%. This decision is aimed at addressing the long-pending demands of teachers and ensuring better career progression within the education department.

Under the revised policy, three-fourths of principal posts will now be filled through promotions from within the teaching cadre, while the remaining 25% will continue to be filled through direct recruitment. The move is expected to bring relief to thousands of senior teachers and lecturers who have been waiting for years to advance in their careers.

Officials stated that the decision will not only reward experienced educators but also improve school leadership by promoting teachers who are already familiar with the state’s academic environment. Educationists believe that this step could enhance morale among staff, strengthen accountability, and encourage teachers to perform better with the assurance of career growth.

The government has also hinted at introducing further reforms in teacher training and school management to raise the overall quality of education. This increase in promotional opportunities marks a positive step toward recognizing the contribution of Punjab’s teaching community.
