Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Monday commemorated the historic milestone of 1000 years since the first attack on the Somnath Temple in 1026 AD , highlighting the temple’s enduring significance as a symbol of India’s culture, faith, and civilisation .

The Prime Minister emphasised that despite repeated assaults over the centuries , the temple continues to stand tall, reflecting the courage and steadfast devotion of generations of Indians who safeguarded the nation’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

“Jai Somnath! 2026 marks 1000 years since the first attack on Somnath took place. Despite repeated attacks, Somnath stands tall! This is because Somnath’s story is about the unbreakable courage of countless children of Bharat Mata who protected our culture and civilisation,” Shri Modi wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), using the hashtag #SomnathSwabhimanParv. He shared the message in both English and Hindi, underscoring the temple’s role as a beacon of faith and national pride.

Located in Prabhas Patan near Veraval in Gujarat , the Somnath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and holds immense spiritual, historical, and cultural significance .
