Prez Murmu Inaugurates Projects Worth ₹158 Cr In Rourkela, Boost To Odisha Infrastructure

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday inaugurated a series of development projects worth around ₹158 crore in Rourkela, located in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, marking a significant push for infrastructure and civic development in the region.

The inaugurated projects include a planetarium and science centre , the Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path , an Integrated Command and Control Centre , a tribal museum , and a recreational park . These initiatives are aimed at improving urban facilities, promoting scientific awareness, preserving tribal heritage, and enhancing public spaces in the steel city.

President Murmu, who is on a day-long visit to the city, was received earlier at the Veer Surendra Sai airport in Jharsuguda by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi . Her visit highlighted both administrative importance and cultural significance for the region.

On reaching Rourkela, the President witnessed cultural performances and interacted with students participating in the event, encouraging youth engagement and educational development. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram was also present during the programmes.

Officials said that security has been significantly strengthened across Rourkela and neighbouring Jharsuguda in view of the high profile visit. The district administration in Jharsuguda also imposed restrictions by declaring the entire district a no fly zone and no drone zone , ensuring smooth movement and safety during the President’s visit.

The visit and inauguration of multiple projects underline the government’s continued focus on strengthening infrastructure and cultural institutions in Odisha, particularly in tribal and industrial regions like Rourkela.

The initiatives are expected to add new dimensions to urban development while also boosting tourism, education, and civic management systems in the region.
