Pretoria Capitals go top of SA20 table with 53-run win over MI Cape Town

Pretoria Capitals produced a commanding all-round display to defeat MI Cape Town by 53 runs and move to the top of the SA20 points table at Centurion on Monday night.

Put in to bat, the Capitals posted a competitive 185/6 , thanks largely to a blistering knock from Sherfane Rutherford , who struck 53 off 27 balls for his maiden SA20 half-century . Walking in with the side wobbling at 89/4 , the West Indies power-hitter transformed the innings, adding a rapid 69-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Dewald Brevis in just 34 balls . Brevis thrilled the packed stadium with audacious strokeplay, including consecutive sixes off Kagiso Rabada .

In reply, defending champions MI Cape Town never recovered from a dramatic middle-order collapse . Gideon Peters starred with the ball, claiming 3/32 , including a crucial double-wicket maiden over that broke the back of the chase. MI Cape Town slumped from 46/2 to 55/6 , losing four wickets for 11 runs . Reeza Hendricks fought a lone battle with an unbeaten 68 off 50 balls , but the target proved too steep as the visitors finished on 132/7 .
