President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday unveiled a bust of the late K.R. Narayanan, former President of India, at Kerala Raj Bhavan, paying floral tributes to the distinguished leader and statesman.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu lauded Narayanan’s life as a shining example of morality, integrity, compassion, and democratic values. “I consider it an honour to unveil the bust of Late Shri K.R. Narayanan here at Raj Bhavan today. I would like to thank Shri Ram Nath Kovind ji, former President of India, under whose guidance this initiative was taken. I am confident that his memory will continue to inspire people to uphold the values of equality, integrity, and public service that he stood for,” President Murmu wrote in a post on the President of India’s X handle.

Highlighting Narayanan’s remarkable journey, she noted his academic brilliance, distinguished career in the Indian Foreign Service, and unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and inclusion during his tenure as a Parliamentarian, Union Minister, and as India’s first Dalit President. “Late Shri K.R. Narayanan's life is a story of courage, perseverance, and self-belief. Through dedication and the power of education, he reached the highest constitutional office of our nation. Before entering politics, he built a distinguished career in diplomacy, upholding India’s values of peace, justice, and cooperation. As a Parliamentarian and Union Minister, he remained steadfast to principles of fairness and inclusivity,” President Murmu said.

K.R. Narayanan, born in Uzhavoor village in Kottayam district, Kerala, was renowned not only for his historic presidency but also for his lifelong advocacy of education, human rights, and social justice. A scholar, diplomat, and orator, he championed equality and worked tirelessly to ensure the empowerment of marginalized communities. Even as President, he remained rooted in his Kerala heritage, promoting social inclusivity and the idea that public service is both a privilege and a responsibility.

President Murmu concluded by emphasizing that as India advances towards a Viksit Bharat , ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens, particularly the marginalized and disadvantaged, is key to fulfilling their aspirations. The bust stands as a tribute to Narayanan’s enduring legacy, inspiring generations to uphold the values of integrity, equality, and public service.
