President Murmu, Om Birla Pay Tribute to Neelam Sanjiva Reddy on Birth Anniversary

The nation on Tuesday remembered former President Dr. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy on his birth anniversary, with top constitutional authorities, parliamentary leaders and dignitaries paying homage to one of India’s most respected statesmen. Tributes poured in from across political circles, highlighting his enduring contribution to parliamentary democracy and public life.

President of India Droupadi Murmu paid floral tributes to Neelam Sanjiva Reddy at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Remembering his legacy, the President honoured the former Head of State for his role in strengthening democratic institutions and upholding constitutional values.

At the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid floral tributes to the former President, who had earlier served as Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Several Members of Parliament, former MPs and senior dignitaries participated in the commemorative event organised by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Lok Sabha Secretary-General Utpal Kumar Singh and Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P.C. Mody were among those who paid respects to the veteran leader. A special booklet detailing the life and achievements of Dr. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was also presented in Hindi and English during the programme.

Born in present-day Andhra Pradesh, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy played a significant role in India’s political and constitutional journey. A freedom fighter and senior Congress leader, he went on to serve as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister and Speaker of the Lok Sabha before becoming India’s sixth President in 1977.

Widely admired for his simplicity, integrity and consensus-driven leadership , Reddy remains the only President of India to have been elected unopposed. Leaders across party lines remembered him as a towering figure who upheld the dignity of constitutional offices and left a lasting impact on India’s parliamentary democracy.
