President Murmu Concludes Historic Three Nation Europe Tour, Returns to Delhi

President Droupadi Murmu concluded her landmark three nation State visit to Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania, returning to New Delhi after a week of high level engagements that strengthened India's ties with Eastern Europe. The tour marked the first ever visit by an Indian Head of State to Moldova, the first presidential visit to North Macedonia, and the first Indian Head of State visit to Romania in over 30 years, reflecting New Delhi's growing strategic focus on the region.

President Murmu began her tour in Moldova on July 20, where she held talks with President Maia Sandu. The two leaders agreed to expand cooperation in agriculture, logistics, infrastructure, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, innovation and digital technologies.

In North Macedonia, President Murmu met President Gordana Sijanovska Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. The two countries agreed to work towards doubling bilateral trade while enhancing cooperation in tourism, hospitality, filmmaking, information technology, science and technology, pharmaceuticals and agriculture. She also addressed the Assembly of North Macedonia and inaugurated the India North Macedonia Business Forum.

The final leg took her to Romania, where she met President Nicusor Dan and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. India and Romania agreed to double bilateral trade over the next three years and expand cooperation in defence, technology, investment, manufacturing and resilient supply chains. Addressing the India Romania Business Forum, President Murmu invited Romanian companies to join India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, saying, "India's growth story offers immense opportunities, and Romanian businesses can become trusted partners in our journey towards Viksit Bharat."

A key highlight of the visit was the conferment of the Doctor Honoris Causa by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. Accepting the honour, President Murmu said, "I accept this award on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians." She described it as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries and called for greater collaboration in artificial intelligence, research, faculty exchanges and student mobility. She also announced that India has doubled ITEC training slots for Romanian professionals.

Before departing Bucharest, President Murmu met members of the Indian community, concluding a historic tour that is expected to provide fresh momentum to India's diplomatic, economic and strategic partnerships across Eastern Europe.
