
President Droupadi Murmu to visit Rourkela, launchkey welfare projects on April 21
Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Rourkela in Odisha’s Sundergarh district on April 21, where she will address a public gathering and inaugurate a series of welfare and infrastructure projects , officials said on Saturday.
Preparations for the high-profile visit were reviewed by Chief Secretary Anu Garg , who chaired a coordination meeting involving senior administrative officials. Director General of Police Y B Khurania and other top police officers joined the meeting virtually to finalise security arrangements .
According to an official release, the President will arrive at Jharsuguda airport at 10:25 am and travel to Rourkela by helicopter. She is scheduled to address a public meeting at Sector-13 , which is expected to be attended by local residents, officials, and beneficiaries of the projects being launched.
During her visit, Murmu will inaugurate key projects, including the Integrated Command and Control Centre building a centralized facility designed to monitor and manage city services in real time along with a Science Park and Planetarium, and Promod Udyan at Koel Nagar. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure, promoting scientific awareness, and enhancing public amenities in the region.
The President will also visit the Tribal Museum and inspect the Command Control Centre in Rourkela, highlighting the importance of preserving tribal heritage alongside modern urban development.
She is expected to depart from Rourkela later in the afternoon and return to New Delhi via Jharsuguda by 4:50 pm.
The event in Rourkela is an official public function, not a political rally, organised to inaugurate development projects. Under India’s Constitution, the President can address such gatherings in an official, non-partisan capacity during state visits and ceremonial events.
