President of India Droupadi Murmu on Monday arrived in Shimla on a six-day official visit to Himachal Pradesh, during which she is scheduled to undertake key engagements across the state, including a visit to the Atal Tunnel and attendance at a banquet at the Lok Bhavan .

The President landed at the Kalyani helipad in Chharabra , located around 14 kilometres from the state capital Shimla. From there, she was escorted to the Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra , where she will be staying during her visit.

She was received by Governor Kavinder Gupta , Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu , along with other senior officials and dignitaries, who welcomed her on arrival.

During her visit from April 27 to May 2 , President Murmu is also expected to travel to Palampur Agriculture University in Kangra district. She is further scheduled to visit the strategically significant Atal Tunnel Rohtang , which connects the Lahaul-Spiti region with Kullu district and remains one of the key infrastructure landmarks in the state.

Security arrangements have been significantly tightened in view of the high-profile visit. Officials said around 1,000 police personnel have been deployed across Shimla. The city has been divided into three security sectors to ensure smooth regulation of traffic movement and to maintain law and order during the President’s stay.

Authorities have also put in place special traffic management plans to minimise disruption for residents and ensure seamless movement of the presidential convoy across different scheduled locations.

The visit is being seen as an important official engagement, with several administrative and academic institutions likely to feature in the President’s itinerary over the coming days.
