President concludes winter retreat in Hyderabad, returns to Delhi

President Droupadi Murmu concluded her annual winter stay at the President’s Retreat in Hyderabad and departed for New Delhi on Monday evening. She was accorded a ceremonial farewell at the Hakimpet Air Force Station.

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, along with other dignitaries, were present to bid farewell to the President.

The President’s visit began on December 17 and included participation in several important events. On December 19, she addressed the National Conference of Chairpersons of Public Service Commissions. A day later, on December 20, she attended a national seminar titled “Timeless Wisdom of Bharat: Pathways of Peace and Progress”, organised by the Brahma Kumaris at Shanti Sarovar in Hyderabad, marking the organisation’s 21st anniversary.

It is a long-standing tradition for the President of India to visit the President’s Retreat in Hyderabad at least once every year and carry out official duties from there. Along with The Retreat Building in Shimla in northern India, the Hyderabad President’s Retreat in the south symbolises the country’s unity and diversity, reflecting India’s inclusive spirit across regions and cultures.

Located in the Bolarum area of Hyderabad, the President’s Retreat was built in 1860. After Independence, the building was taken over from the Nizam and brought under the President’s Secretariat. Spread across about 90 acres, the single-storey heritage structure houses 11 rooms and includes facilities such as a dining hall, cinema hall, morning room and other amenities. Regular presidential visits continue to add to the historical and institutional significance of this landmark.
