Premier League thriller: Arsenal win narrowly, Villa maintain home record

Arsenal and Aston Villa both registered important victories in the ongoing 2025-26 Premier League season, keeping their title ambitions firmly alive. Arsenal narrowly defeated Bournemouth 3-2 on the road, while Aston Villa secured a 3-1 home win against Nottingham Forest.

The win extended Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to 48 points from 20 matches, while Aston Villa bounced back from a previous defeat to Arsenal and sit second with 42 points from the same number of games.

At Vitality Stadium , Bournemouth started brightly, with Evanilson giving the hosts an early lead in the 10th minute. Arsenal responded swiftly as Gabriel Magalhaes equalised in the 16th minute. The spotlight then shifted to Declan Rice , who made a triumphant return from injury, scoring twice in the 54th and 71st minutes to hand the visitors a crucial lead. Bournemouth fought back through Eli Junior Kroupi’s 76th-minute strike, but Arsenal held on for a hard-fought victory.

Meanwhile, Villa Park witnessed another dominant home display from Aston Villa. Ollie Watkins opened the scoring during first-half stoppage time, and John McGinn quickly doubled the lead in the 49th minute. Nottingham Forest pulled one back through Morgan Gibbs-White in the 61st minute, but McGinn’s second goal in the 73rd minute sealed a 3-1 win, marking Villa’s 11th consecutive home victory in all competitions, equalling a club record.
