‘Premalu 2’ Officially Cancelled? Naslen Reveals Script Issues Behind Sequel Halt

The future of Premalu 2 , the much-anticipated sequel to the 2024 Malayalam blockbuster Premalu , has become uncertain after actor Naslen confirmed that the project has been stopped for now , with strong indications that it may no longer move forward due to unresolved script concerns.

Premalu , directed by Girish A. D., emerged as one of the most successful Malayalam films in recent years, earning widespread acclaim for its engaging humour, fresh storytelling, and the chemistry between Naslen and Mamitha Baiju. Following its success, the makers officially announced a sequel in April 2024, generating significant anticipation among audiences for the continuation of Sachin and Reenu’s story.

However, the project soon encountered repeated delays during the script development stage , with no progress into actual production. Naslen has now directly addressed the situation, stating that the sequel did not proceed because the team was dissatisfied with the writing process. He reportedly said that Premalu 2 has been cancelled for now and added that the script did not reach the required level of perfection , suggesting creative dissatisfaction as the primary reason behind the halt.

His remarks indicate that creative differences and screenplay challenges played a central role in delaying the project, with multiple draft versions failing to meet the expectations of the team.

Earlier, co-producer Dileesh Pothan had also acknowledged development issues and production delays , while confirming that no filming had begun despite initial planning. Although the sequel was once expected to go on floors in 2025, the schedule was repeatedly postponed without any concrete update.

Industry reports now suggest that Premalu 2 has effectively been removed from active development , with no production timeline in place and key members of the team shifting focus to other projects. Director Girish A. D. has also moved on to new work, further reducing the likelihood of near-term revival.

Despite the current uncertainty, there remains a slight possibility that the project could be revived in the future if a strong revised script is developed. Mamitha Baiju has also hinted that the story of Sachin and Reenu may not be completely over, suggesting that the characters’ journey could continue in some form, which has kept hopes alive among fans.
