Preeti Pawar Storms Into Commonwealth Games Boxing Final With Commanding 5-0 Victory

India's Preeti Pawar continued her impressive run at the Commonwealth Games, producing a commanding performance to book her place in the women's 54kg boxing final with a unanimous 5-0 victory over Zambia's Catherine Mwape on Friday.

The 22-year-old boxer from Bhiwani, who won a bronze medal at the Asian Games, dominated the semifinal from the opening bell. Displaying exceptional speed, precision and ring awareness, Preeti consistently outclassed her opponent with sharp counter-attacks and well-timed combinations.

Her crisp left straight repeatedly found its target as she cleverly drew Mwape forward before punishing the Zambian with accurate punches. Unable to match Preeti's pace or accuracy, Mwape struggled throughout the contest and found herself under relentless pressure.

The one-sided nature of the bout was reflected in the three eight counts Mwape received during the opening two rounds. Preeti's superiority was so overwhelming that all five judges awarded her a 10-8 score in the second round, underlining her complete control inside the ring.

With the semifinal effectively decided well before the final bell, Mwape spent much of the last round trying to avoid further punishment, while Preeti comfortably maintained her dominance without needing to overextend herself.

The emphatic victory sends the Indian boxer into the gold medal bout, where she will face Canada's Scarlett Delgado, who defeated England's Lauren Mackie by a 4-1 split decision in the other semifinal.

Having looked increasingly confident with each bout, Preeti now stands just one victory away from adding a Commonwealth Games gold medal to her growing list of international achievements.
