Jan Suraaj founder and Bankipur MLA Prashant Kishor on Saturday met Madhubani SSP in connection with the death of 19-year-old Roshan Yadav inside Rampatti jail and sought a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Yadav allegedly hanged himself inside the jail on Monday, according to police. However, his family has disputed the claim, alleging that he may have been killed and pointing to marks found on his body.

Yadav had been lodged in the jail since May 27 in connection with an Arms Act case. Officials said he was briefly released in late May but was re-arrested within hours.

After meeting the SSP, Kishor said the officer had agreed to examine all aspects of the case within 10 days and assured that appropriate action would be taken. He warned that if the matter was not addressed within the stipulated period, his party would approach the DGP and the Chief Secretary.

Kishor also said the SSP had assured him that the District Magistrate would investigate the death in accordance with NHRC guidelines.

Raising questions over Yadav's arrest and detention, Kishor asked why Rahika police arrested him, why his family was allegedly not given written information, and why he was detained without being produced before a magistrate. He also referred to allegations that Yadav was beaten and tortured.

Yadav's family had earlier approached the police station and the SP, seeking action against the jail administration and an impartial investigation.

His mother and sisters, who met him in jail on August 8, said he appeared normal at the time.

Kishor said the case should be fast-tracked on humanitarian grounds, noting that Yadav came from a poor family and had lost his father in a train accident.
