Pramod Bhagat, Bhavina Patel to Lead India as Flag Bearers at Asian Para Games
Paralympic champions Pramod Bhagat and Bhavina Patel will lead the Indian contingent as flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games, scheduled to be held from October 18 to 24 in Nagoya, Japan.
Bhagat, one of India’s most accomplished para-badminton players, has been a consistent performer at the Asian Para Games. He has won six medals, including two gold and four bronze, across the 2014 to 2023 editions. His achievements have made him one of the prominent figures in Indian para sport.
Patel, a leading para-table tennis player, has also made her mark at the continental level. She has won two Asian Para Games medals between 2018 and 2023 — one silver and one bronze.
Reacting to her selection as flag bearer, Patel described it as a proud moment. She said carrying the Tricolour represents something much bigger than an individual athlete and expressed her excitement about leading the contingent alongside Bhagat. She also hoped Indian athletes would compete with confidence, enjoy the experience and give their best for the country.
The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) will formally see off the Indian contingent at a special send-off ceremony on October 8. Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will attend the event as chief guest, while Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse will be the Guest of Honour.
PCI President Devendra Jhajharia said Bhagat and Patel were fitting representatives of the Indian contingent, praising their achievements, resilience and contribution to the growth of Indian para sport.
The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games will bring together para-athletes from across Asia, with India aiming to build on its growing success at major international competitions.
