Prajwal Revanna Found With Phone In Bengaluru Jail, Fresh FIR Filed

Former MP Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence for rape, was found with an Android mobile phone inside Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, raising fresh questions over security at the high security jail.

The phone was recovered during a Central Crime Branch (CCB) raid on August 11. The search lasted around four to five hours and covered high profile inmates as well as other prisoners, Karnataka Director General of Prisons Alok Kumar said.

The case has since moved forward. Parappana Agrahara police have registered a fresh FIR, naming Revanna as Accused No. 1. Another inmate, identified as Pratap Roy, has been named Accused No. 2. Police are investigating how the phone entered the jail and whether anyone helped bring it inside.

Other reports said the wider search also led to the recovery of a pen drive, charger and notebook. The exact circumstances behind the recovery of these items are also being examined.

The discovery has led to action against prison staff. Assistant Superintendent Eeranna Rangapur has been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty. The Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison has also received a show cause notice. A detailed inquiry is underway.

The incident has brought back memories of the 2024 Parappana Agrahara controversy involving actor Darshan. Photos and videos showing Darshan with other people and apparently using a phone inside the prison had then triggered a major security row and action against jail officials.

Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, represented Hassan in the Lok Sabha from 2019 to 2024. He was arrested in May 2024 after returning to India amid sexual assault allegations.

In August 2025, a Bengaluru special court sentenced Revanna to life imprisonment for raping a 48 year old woman who had worked as domestic help for his family. The latest phone case has now added another legal challenge for the former MP, while the jail authorities face questions over how prohibited items reached a high security barrack.
