Posters Against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Surface in Wayanad, Case Filed

Police in Kerala’s Wayanad have registered a case after posters targeting senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge appeared on the walls of the District Congress Committee (DCC) office and nearby areas in Kalpetta, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, the posters surfaced on May 13 when political discussions were underway over the selection of the next Chief Minister in Kerala. The posters allegedly carried provocative messages against the Congress leadership and warned that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who represents Wayanad in Parliament, would face defeat in the next Lok Sabha election.

One of the messages reportedly stated that “Wayanad will become the next Amethi,” referring to the Uttar Pradesh constituency where Rahul Gandhi lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election before later winning from Wayanad.

The case was registered at Kalpetta police station following a complaint filed by Congress MLA T Siddique. Police said offences have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Kerala Police Act .

Officials said Congress workers removed the posters shortly after they appeared. Investigators have also retrieved CCTV footage that reportedly shows an unidentified person pasting the posters on the compound wall of the Congress office. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the suspect.

Reacting to the incident, local Congress leaders alleged that the posters were part of a deliberate attempt to intimidate party workers and create political tension in the constituency. Congress workers condemned the act and demanded strict action against those responsible.

Leaders from rival political parties, however, urged authorities to conduct an impartial investigation and identify those behind the posters before drawing political conclusions. Police said the investigation is continuing.
