Police in Krishna district have intensified action against drug trafficking following a series of recent cannabis-related cases. On Tuesday, Gudivada Rural police conducted a raid near Kothavaram Railway Station, arresting nine young men and seizing 3.1 kilograms of cannabis, a motorcycle, and nine mobile phones.

According to S.L.R. Someshwar Rao, Circle Inspector of Gudivada Rural, the arrested individuals are residents of Dokiparru village. Investigations revealed that they were involved in both using cannabis and selling it locally at low prices. Police had prior information that they were also in contact with individuals from other states to supply cannabis, prompting the special operation.

Cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are ongoing to trace their supply network and links with gangs in other states.

Krishna district has seen a spike in cannabis trafficking in recent months. Earlier, police seized over two kilograms of cannabis during a check at Gudivada Urban bus stand. Several people were also apprehended in connection with illegal drug transportation along the Machilipatnam coastal area. Another notable seizure involved a large quantity of cannabis found in a car traveling on the Kaikaluru-Eluru route.
