Police launch Manhunt after tribal woman’s murder in state

A 33-year-old tribal woman from Telangana’s Medak district has died after an alleged sexual assault and brutal attack, prompting a murder probe and statewide outrage. Police have intensified investigations into what appears to be a case of rape followed by murder near the Edupayala temple road in Kulcharam mandal.

According to the police, the victim, a daily-wage labourer and mother of five, had left her home on Friday morning to work in nearby fields but failed to return. On Saturday morning, local residents discovered her lying unconscious under a tree, reportedly tied and bleeding, and immediately alerted the authorities. She had sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a local hospital before being referred to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries while being transported on Saturday night.

Medak Superintendent of Police said that a case was initially registered under sections of rape and attempt to murder, which has since been upgraded to rape and murder following her death. Police have formed multiple special teams to trace the culprits, and CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being closely examined to establish the sequence of events. Forensic experts have also collected samples from the scene for DNA and biological analysis.

Preliminary findings suggest that the woman may have been assaulted by more than one person. The attackers allegedly used a heavy object, suspected to be a boulder, to inflict the fatal blow on her head. The incident reportedly occurred in an isolated area surrounded by fields, a route the woman frequently took for her daily labour work.

As of Monday morning, no arrests have been officially confirmed, though police sources said several suspects are being questioned. The victim’s body was sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death and collect vital forensic evidence. The report is expected to provide clarity on the time of assault and the extent of physical injuries.

The incident has sparked anger across Telangana, with activists demanding swift justice and stronger measures to ensure women’s safety in rural areas. Tribal welfare groups and women’s rights organisations have urged the government to ensure a fast-track investigation and provide financial aid to the victim’s family.

This tragedy adds to growing concerns over women’s safety in remote parts of the state, where isolated work locations and inadequate surveillance have made many vulnerable to violence.
