Police commissionerates reorganised, new ‘Future City’ commissionerate created
In a major administrative step aligned with Telangana’s long-term development vision, the state government has reorganised police commissionerates in and around Hyderabad and created a new ‘Future City’ Police Commissionerate. The move is aimed at strengthening law and order management in line with the city’s rapid expansion and anticipated future growth.
The decision follows the launch of the Telangana 2047 Vision Document at the recently held Telangana Rising Global Summit. The government has set an ambitious goal of transforming Telangana into a USD 3 trillion economy by 2047. As part of this strategy, the state has been divided into three development zones - CURE, PURE, and RARE - with region-specific planning and governance models.
In the Hyderabad metropolitan region, significant legal changes were made by merging 27 municipalities located within the Outer Ring Road into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. With the city’s administrative boundaries expanding, the police structure was redesigned to ensure better coordination, governance, and public safety.
Earlier, policing in the region was managed through three commissionerates - Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda. Under the new arrangement, four commissionerates will function: Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City. As part of this reorganisation, the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate has been officially renamed as Malkajgiri.
The restructuring also involves redistributing Hyderabad city and its surrounding areas among the four commissionerates to improve administrative efficiency and ensure quicker response to public concerns. The government said the changes were necessary to keep pace with the city’s rapid urbanisation and growing population.
A separate Future City Police Commissionerate has been established in view of the proposed ‘Bharat Future City’ project, which is being developed as a major centre for industries, IT hubs, and residential townships. Anticipating large-scale economic activity and urban development in the area, the government felt the need for a dedicated police setup to effectively handle law and order and security challenges.
As part of the reorganisation, the government issued transfer orders on Monday night. Sudheer Babu has been appointed as Commissioner of Police for Future City, Avinash Mohanty as Commissioner of Police for Malkajgiri, Ramesh Reddy will continue as Commissioner of Police for Cyberabad, and Akshansh Yadav has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Yadadri district.
Officials stated that the reorganisation was undertaken keeping in mind future security requirements, administrative convenience, and the need for stronger policing mechanisms. The government expects the new structure to make police administration more efficient and enable faster, more effective delivery of services to citizens across the Hyderabad region.
