Police arrested two with heroin worth Rs 11 cr in Assam’s Kamrup
Assam Police on Tuesday arrested two persons and seized heroin worth around Rs 11 crore from Kamrup district , officials said, as the state steps up enforcement against drugs and organised crime in the run-up to the upcoming elections.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted two vehicles in the Amingaon area. During a search, the team recovered 97 soap boxes containing heroin , allegedly hidden in secret compartments inside the vehicles.
The seized contraband weighed around 1.35 kg , the police said.
The accused were identified as Anowar Hussain Kaji and Aminul Sikdar . Officials said necessary legal action has been initiated and an investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and possible interstate links.
The seizure comes at a time when drug trafficking and law-and-order issues are expected to remain in focus ahead of elections, with enforcement agencies under pressure to curb narcotics inflow and its impact on youth and public security.
