Polavaram surroundings to be developed as a tourism hub: Minister Nimmala

Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu on Wednesday announced plans to develop the areas surrounding the Polavaram project into a major tourism hub. He said a detailed layout plan is currently being designed for this purpose.

Chairing a meeting at the Amaravati Secretariat with architects and agency representatives on the beautification of the Polavaram spillway, the minister stressed that the structure should reflect Telugu culture while also showcasing the pride and identity of the state.

The minister said around 9,900 acres identified through a LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) survey in the Polavaram project area will be developed with a focus on tourism. As per the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, proposals are also being prepared for the construction of bridges connecting the left bank of the Polavaram project.

He further directed officials to plan improved road connectivity, including linking National Highway 365BB with NH-516E, to ensure smooth transport access to the region.

Senior irrigation department officials, architects, and representatives of implementing agencies were present at the meeting.
