Narendra Modi will visit Kerala and Tamil Nadu today to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of development projects worth ₹16,450 crore , spanning sectors such as petroleum and natural gas, highways, railways, renewable energy and rural connectivity, according to an official statement issued on Monday.

The prime minister will first arrive in Ernakulam , where he will launch projects worth around ₹10,800 crore and address a public gathering.

Among the major initiatives is the foundation stone for a polypropylene unit at the Kochi Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited , with a capacity of 400 kilo tonnes per annum and an investment of over ₹5,500 crore . Polypropylene is widely used in packaging, automotive components, medical devices and textiles, and the project is expected to strengthen domestic polymer manufacturing, reduce import dependence and generate employment.

In the road infrastructure sector, Modi will inaugurate the six-laning of the Thalapady–Chengala stretch of NH-66 , built at a cost of over ₹2,650 crore as part of the Mumbai–Kanyakumari Economic Corridor. The project is expected to improve connectivity between Kasaragod and Kannur districts and neighbouring regions. He will also inaugurate the six-laning of the Kozhikode Bypass from Vengalam to Ramanattukara, a ₹2,140-crore project aimed at easing congestion, reducing travel time and improving access to key trade and tourism destinations.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana , 23 rural roads will be inaugurated to strengthen connectivity in remote areas and improve access to markets, education and healthcare.

In the railway sector, three stations Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram and Changanassery redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will be inaugurated. The prime minister will also dedicate the Shoranur–Nilambur railway line electrification project and flag off a new train service between Palakkad and Pollachi, improving rail connectivity between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, the foundation stone for a 50-MW floating solar project in West Kallada, Kollam district will be laid, contributing to India’s clean energy goals .

Later in the day, Modi will travel to Tiruchirappalli , where he will launch projects worth around ₹5,650 crore .

A key project is the city gas distribution network being developed by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in the Nilgiris and Erode districts, with an investment of over ₹3,680 crore. The network will provide piped natural gas to more than 8.8 lakh households and establish over 200 CNG stations, promoting cleaner fuel use.

The prime minister will also dedicate a lube blending plant of Indian Oil Corporation in Manali, Chennai , built at a cost of ₹1,490 crore with a capacity of 6,72,000 metric tonnes per annum .

Further, 89 rural roads spanning about 370 km will be inaugurated under PMGSY, while the foundation stone for a greenfield bypass near Gangaikonda Cholapuram on NH-81 will also be laid.
