PM set to land on Assam highway before IAF airshow on Feb 14: CM Himanta
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on Saturday, Feb 14, beginning with a landing at the Moran Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Dibrugarh district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. The visit will feature a 30-minute IAF airshow with around 16 fighter jets, including Rafael and Sukhoi aircraft, either flying overhead or landing on the highway strip. This marks the first elaborate exercise on a highway ELF, which has been developed as part of the Dibrugarh–Moran National Highway project in coordination with the Indian Air Force.
The Moran ELF, a 4.2 km stretch of reinforced highway , is designed for emergency military landings and take-offs, enhancing national security and disaster preparedness in the strategically sensitive northeast region.
After the airshow, Modi will travel to Guwahati to inaugurate several major infrastructure and development projects. These include a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River , described by the CM as an architectural marvel, the temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Management, Guwahati , and an AI-enabled hyperscale data centre , previously announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
In addition, the Prime Minister will flag off 100 electric buses for Guwahati, supporting the city’s sustainable transport initiatives. Later in the afternoon, he will attend a BJP Booth Sanmilan at Khanapara, addressing around one lakh booth workers , ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Modi’s visit will be his third to the state in three months , underscoring both strategic and political priorities. The combination of a highway ELF airshow, key infrastructural inaugurations, digital initiatives, and sustainable transport measures highlights Assam’s growing importance in national security, development, and governance.
