PM Modi's July 17 Visit Under Security Scanner After Bomb Threat Email

Security agencies have been placed on high alert after an email, purportedly sent by a pro-Khalistan outfit, threatened to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi's July 17 visit to Punjab and Haryana. The message also warned of bomb attacks at multiple public locations, prompting authorities to tighten security and launch an investigation.

According to officials, the email claimed that improvised explosive device (IED) blasts would be carried out at schools, the Mohali Mayor's office, and railway stations in Chandigarh and Jalandhar during the Prime Minister's visit. It also threatened Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu .

The email was purportedly issued on behalf of a group identifying itself as the "Khalistan National Army," which has allegedly issued similar threats in recent months, including against the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. Investigators said the message was sent from the email ID "kengakira@gmail.com" and mentioned specific timings for the alleged attacks on July 17 .

Officials said the email contained references to Khalistan , the farmers' movement , and slain human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra , while expressing support for singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh . Dosanjh portrayed Khalra in the film Satluj , which was withdrawn from ZEE5 for viewers in India shortly after its release following security-related concerns raised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana on July 17 to inaugurate and announce several development projects. He is also slated to address a public rally in Jind, Haryana .

Following the threat, police and security agencies have intensified security arrangements at sensitive locations across the region. Authorities are currently verifying the authenticity of the email and assessing the credibility of the threat, while investigations remain underway. No suspicious objects or security breaches have been reported so far.
