PM Modi Urges Unity, Pushes Diplomacy Amid West Asia Crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Lok Sabha on the ongoing West Asia conflict, terming the situation “deeply concerning” and urging a united national voice along with global efforts for an early resolution.

Stating that the crisis has continued for over three weeks, Modi highlighted its adverse impact on the global economy and human lives . He noted that India’s concerns are significant due to its strong trade ties with the region and the presence of nearly one crore Indians in Gulf countries, along with a large number of Indian crew members on commercial vessels.

The Prime Minister underlined the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a major share of India’s crude oil, gas and fertiliser imports pass. He said shipping through the route has become “highly challenging” , but assured that the government has taken steps to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies and minimise hardship for citizens.

Detailing efforts to safeguard Indians abroad, Modi said over 3.75 lakh citizens have been evacuated since the conflict began. Indian missions in affected regions are providing continuous assistance through 24/7 helplines, while he has personally engaged with several West Asian leaders to ensure the safety of Indian nationals .

On energy security, the Prime Minister said India has diversified its import sources from 27 to 41 countries , reducing dependence on any single region. He also highlighted the country’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves , currently exceeding 53 lakh metric tonnes, and ongoing efforts to further enhance capacity.

Modi noted that the government is closely monitoring supply chains through a dedicated inter-ministerial group and remains confident of managing the situation through coordinated efforts. He added that adequate foodgrain and coal stocks are available, while renewable energy capacity has crossed 250 GW , strengthening resilience.

Reaffirming India’s stand, the Prime Minister stressed that “dialogue and diplomacy are the only solutions” and reiterated opposition to attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure. He also warned of internal security risks, stating that all agencies are on alert and urging strict action against hoarding, black-marketing and misinformation .

Concluding, Modi called for unity, vigilance and patience , expressing confidence that India’s collective resolve will help it navigate the prolonged global crisis.
