PM Modi urges citizens to join Run for Unity, honour Sardar Patel’s legacy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called upon citizens to participate in the Run for Unity on October 31, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the leader who unified India after Independence.

“Join the Run for Unity on 31st October and celebrate the spirit of togetherness! Let’s honour Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India,” Modi said in a post on X, urging people from all walks of life to take part in the nationwide event.

Born on October 31, 1875, Sardar Patel served as India’s first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, playing a historic role in integrating more than 500 princely states into the Indian Union. His vision and leadership earned him the title ‘Iron Man of India.’

Patel’s birth anniversary is observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), a day that celebrates India’s strength in diversity. This year’s observance holds special significance as it marks his 150th Jayanti.

The Prime Minister will lead the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade near Kevadia in Gujarat, home to the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, built in Patel’s honour.

In his Mann ki Baat address on Sunday, Modi described October 31 as a “special day” that reminds every Indian of Patel’s unmatched contribution to national integration. Across the country, Run for Unity events will be held, symbolizing collective commitment to the ideals of unity, integrity, and nation-building.
