PM Modi Unveils Development Projects Worth Over ₹4,000 Crore In Sikkim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a ₹4,018 crore development package in Sikkim, marking the closing ceremony of the state’s 50th statehood anniversary celebrations with a wide-ranging push across sectors.

The Prime Minister unveiled 30 projects spanning infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, power, urban development, tourism, environment, and agriculture , aimed at accelerating holistic and inclusive development in the Himalayan state.

In healthcare, Modi laid the foundation for a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital at Yangang in Namchi district and inaugurated a 30-bed Integrated Sowa Rigpa Hospital at NIT Deorali in Gangtok , strengthening access to traditional and modern systems of medicine.

Education initiatives included the inauguration of the permanent campus of Sikkim University , the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose University of Excellence administrative block , the Helen Lepcha Medical College , and the Dentam Professional College , along with a model residential school , a college in Mangan, and a monastic hostel-cum-classroom . IT-enabled infrastructure across 160 schools was also launched to boost digital learning.

Connectivity projects featured the foundation for steel arch bridges over the Teesta river at Sirwani and Lower Samdong and the widening of the Birdhang–Namchi road via Kitchudumra , improving mobility between Namchi and Gangtok districts .

In the power sector, the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) network in Gangtok was upgraded, while urban projects included the Jan Seva Sachivalaya at Lumsey , the Civil Services Officers Institute , and housing for police personnel .

Environmental efforts included sewerage system rehabilitation at Singtam , while tourism projects covered the Ridge Precinct redevelopment , eco-tourism at Dodak, and facilities linked to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra , along with an eco-pilgrimage complex at Silnon .

In agriculture, the Sikkim IFFCO processing plant is expected to boost farmer incomes, while indoor cricket facilities at Mining and Rangpo aim to promote youth engagement.

Earlier, Modi visited the Orchidarium in Gangtok, praising Sikkim’s biodiversity and sustainable development model .

The initiatives underline the Centre’s focus on sustainable growth in the Himalayan region as Sikkim marks 50 years of statehood .
