PM Modi to Review NITI Aayog's New Leadership on November 5
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the newly appointed leadership of NITI Aayog on November 5 to review their work, understand key policy priorities and discuss strategies for achieving the government's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, amid growing global economic uncertainties.
According to a senior NITI Aayog official, each member is expected to make a two-slide presentation outlining the issues they are addressing and the policies being pursued. The interaction will provide the Prime Minister with a first-hand assessment of the institution's ongoing initiatives and future plans.
The meeting assumes significance as the government begins shaping its priorities for the 2027-28 Union Budget. Key areas likely to receive attention include economic growth, domestic manufacturing, employment generation, deregulation, self-reliance and improving the business environment.
India is also facing economic challenges arising from global conflicts, rising fuel prices, fertiliser supply pressures and foreign exchange volatility. The Indian rupee touched a record low of Rs 96.96 against the US dollar in May 2026 before recovering to around Rs 94.95 in October, partly supported by Reserve Bank of India intervention.
Discussions are also expected to cover human capital development, education reforms, skill development and policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers and economically weaker sections.
The meeting comes after the government revamped NITI Aayog's leadership between April and July 2026, appointing Ashok Lahiri as Vice Chairman, Anurag Jain as CEO and seven new members.
Other members attending include Rajiv Gauba, R Balasubramaniam, Joram Aniya, K V Raju, M Srinivas, Gobardhan Das and Abhay Karandikar, along with senior officials.
Established in January 2015 after replacing the Planning Commission, NITI Aayog serves as the government's principal policy think tank, coordinating development strategies with central ministries and state governments.
