PM Modi to inaugurate ₹5,000 Crore infrastructure projects in Arunachal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Arunachal Pradesh on Monday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for infrastructure projects valued at nearly ₹5,000 crore . The projects, which cover a range of sectors including power, connectivity, and health, are expected to significantly boost economic activity and improve the quality of life in the region.

Key hydropower projects

A central focus of the visit will be the laying of foundation stones for two major hydropower projects on the Yarjep River in the Shi Yomi district.

• Tato-I Project: This 186 MW project, with a budget of ₹1,750 crore , is a joint venture between the Arunachal Pradesh government and the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO). It's anticipated to generate approximately 802 million units of electricity annually.

• Heo Project: Also a joint effort with NEEPCO, the 240 MW Heo project is budgeted at ₹1,939 crore . This project is projected to produce 1,000 million units of electricity each year.

These initiatives are critical for harnessing the region's vast hydro potential and contributing to the nation's energy security.

Additional infrastructure development

Beyond the hydropower sector, the PM will also inaugurate several other key projects:

• Tawang Convention Centre: A new convention centre in Tawang, built under the PM-DevINE scheme, will be inaugurated at a cost of ₹145.37 crore . The facility, designed to global standards, can accommodate over 1,500 people and is aimed at promoting tourism and cultural events.

• Miscellaneous Projects: The PM will also launch a variety of other infrastructure projects worth over ₹1,290 crore . These include initiatives related to connectivity, health, and fire safety, which are expected to enhance public services and regional development.

Schedule and security

Prime Minister Modi's itinerary includes his arrival at Donyi Polo Airport in Hollongi, followed by a helicopter flight to Raj Bhavan and a public rally at Indira Gandhi Park. Senior officials, including Governor KT Parnaik and Chief Minister Pema Khandu, are expected to attend the event. Security has been significantly heightened across the city in preparation for the visit.

Local indigenous priests, or 'nibus', have performed traditional rituals for the PM's good health and a successful visit, expressing hope that his frequent visits will bring more development and prosperity to the state. Following his engagements in Arunachal Pradesh, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Tripura.
