PM Modi Says India Has Moved From ‘Policy Paralysis’ to ‘Policy Dynamism’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India has travelled a long way from “policy paralysis” in 2013 to “policy dynamism”, asserting that the country’s 7.8 per cent economic growth reflects its strength despite global uncertainty.

Addressing the centenary celebrations of Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Modi recalled his visit to the institution in 2013, when he was Gujarat chief minister, and said the vision he presented at the time continued to remain relevant.

Modi contrasted the economic and political situation of 2013 with the country’s present position. He said India had then been marked by low development, high inflation, corruption allegations, security challenges and weak investor confidence.

Referring to India’s earlier classification among the “Fragile Five” economies, Modi said those who had pushed the country into that category were now unable to accept its growth performance. “Today, they are talking about India as the fastest-growing major economy,” he said.

The prime minister urged young people to revisit newspaper headlines from 2013 to understand the circumstances prevailing at the time. He cited reports on Indian soldiers being killed along the Line of Control, lowered growth forecasts, a record current account deficit and inflation touching 10 per cent.

Modi also highlighted his government’s record on national security, saying those spreading terrorism had been “trounced” and claiming that the back of Naxalism had been broken. He said India’s approach had changed significantly over the past decade.

Addressing SRCC students and alumni, Modi praised the institution’s century-long contribution to education and nation-building. Using a phrase popular among Gen Z, he described SRCC alumni as “OGs”, or original figures, who had made a lasting contribution.

During the event, Modi also released a commemorative Rs 100 coin marking SRCC’s centenary. His visit comes amid the BJP’s continuing outreach to younger voters and follows his April meeting with SRCC’s governing body and a college delegation at his residence.
