PM Modi Reviews Measures in High-Level Energy Meet
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reviewed with senior ministers the status of crude, gas, petroleum products, power, and fertilizer supply in view of the evolving West Asia conflict . The meeting focused on ensuring uninterrupted supply, stable logistics, and efficient distribution of essential goods across the country.
The high-level meeting was attended by Union Ministers Rajnath Singh (Defence), Amit Shah (Home), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Agriculture), S. Jaishankar (External Affairs), Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance), Piyush Goyal (Commerce & Industry), and Ashwini Vaishnaw (Railways). Other key officials present included Sarbananda Sonowal (Ports and Shipping), Manohar Lal Khattar (Power), Pralhad Joshi (Food and Consumer Affairs), Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu (Civil Aviation), Hardeep Singh Puri (Petroleum), NSA Ajit Doval , and the Prime Minister’s principal secretaries P.K. Mishra and Shaktikanta Das .
The review comes amid severe global energy disruptions triggered by the conflict in West Asia, which began on February 28, 2026 , when the US and Israel attacked Iran , and Iran retaliated against Israel and several Gulf nations. Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz , a critical shipping route through which 20 per cent of the world’s energy is transported. The blockade has significantly affected energy supply to India and other countries.
Since the outbreak of hostilities, PM Modi has held telephonic conversations with leaders from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, France, Malaysia, Israel, and Iran , seeking to mitigate the impact on India.
The government sources said the meeting reviewed measures to protect consumer and industry interests while maintaining continuous availability of essential goods . PM Modi had earlier highlighted that the conflict had triggered a worldwide energy crisis , which is a critical test of national resilience requiring peace, patience, and increased public awareness . He reiterated that the government is working relentlessly to address disruptions in international supply chains and exploring ways to overcome challenges caused by the evolving situation.
The high-level meeting underlines the government’s proactive approach in safeguarding India’s energy security and ensuring that essential commodities remain accessible to the public despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
