PM Modi meets Qualcomm CEO, discusses India’s AI and 6G plans

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met Mr. Cristiano R. Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm, to discuss India’s progress in artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, and skilling, according to an official release by PIB Delhi.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Qualcomm’s support for India’s Semiconductor and AI Missions. He emphasised that India offers unmatched talent and scale to develop technologies that will shape the global future.

Mr. Cristiano R. Amon thanked the Prime Minister for the discussion and highlighted opportunities to strengthen the collaboration between Qualcomm and India. He noted that the partnership could support the IndiaAI and India Semiconductor Missions, as well as facilitate the country’s transition towards 6G technology.

The Qualcomm CEO outlined potential areas for development within India, including an AI ecosystem across smartphones, personal computers, smart glasses, automotive applications, and industrial sectors. He emphasised the company’s commitment to working with India to build next-generation technologies and support innovation and research initiatives.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi shared his reflections on X, stating:

The meeting comes at a time when India is actively promoting high-tech industries through government-led missions. The India Semiconductor Mission and IndiaAI Mission aim to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing, advance AI research, and develop a skilled workforce. Qualcomm’s engagement aligns with these initiatives and could contribute to long-term technological growth, innovation, and foreign direct investment in the country.

The discussions also highlighted the potential for developing advanced AI-driven devices and 6G-enabled technologies, providing opportunities for India to expand its presence in the global technology ecosystem.
