PM Modi meets Blind Women’s T20 World Cup champions, praises their grit and spirit

India made history by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, a six-team tournament featuring India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and the USA. In the final, the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team defeated Nepal by seven wickets, restricting them to 114/5 before chasing down the target in just 12 overs, led by a stellar 44 not out from Phula Saren.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the team on Wednesday at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg, lauding their grit, commitment and the “path-breaking victory” that has set an inspiring example for the entire nation.

The Prime Minister warmly congratulated the squad for becoming World Champions, noting that their victory goes far beyond the scoreboard. He praised their determination, confidence, and ability to rise above challenges, saying that those who move forward with hard work “never fail, not just in sports, but in life.”

Mr. Modi highlighted that the team’s World Cup triumph has strengthened their identity and boosted their self-belief. He also connected their achievement to the spirit of Vande Mataram , remarking that the 150-year celebration of the iconic song mirrors the unity and national pride shown by the players.

A touching moment came when one athlete sang devotional verses, prompting the Prime Minister to share his own memories of Kashi. In a lighter vein, he compared the team’s adaptability to politics, observing that just as leaders play multiple roles, these cricketers too perform as true all-rounders.

One team member became emotional as she shared that her late father had always dreamed of seeing her succeed at the highest level, and meeting the Prime Minister after winning the World Cup felt like fulfilling that wish.

Mr. Modi told the champions that their World Cup win is an inspiration not only for the differently abled but for every Indian. He said their journey reflects the courage and resilience of India’s youth and shows the world what the country’s athletes are capable of.
