
PM Modi launches ₹33,500 crore Delhi projects, upgrading metro, roads, and city life
New Delhi is set for a transformative leap as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth ₹33,500 crore on Sunday. Addressing a gathering marking International Women’s Day , the Prime Minister emphasized that these projects are not just investments in infrastructure, but a reflection of a modern, vibrant, and self-confident India.
Highlighting the scope of the initiatives, PM Modi detailed the expansion of Delhi’s Metro network , including a new section that will ease the daily commute for lakhs of residents, particularly in East and North-East Delhi . “The more modern, convenient, and well-connected Delhi becomes, the stronger India’s confidence is projected to the world,” he remarked.
The development push spans residential complexes for government employees , the deployment of 1,800 new buses , including dedicated ' Devi Buses ' for last-mile connectivity, and the Peripheral Expressway that has successfully diverted traffic from entering the city. Initiatives to rejuvenate the Yamuna River are also underway, aiming for cleaner waterways and a greener capital.
On the social front, the Prime Minister highlighted programs empowering women and street vendors . Over 10 crore women are now part of Self-Help Groups , gaining financial independence, while nearly 2 lakh street vendors in Delhi have benefited from the PM SVANidhi scheme , with over ₹350 crore disbursed. “The SVANidhi credit card has become a new symbol of dignity and empowerment for our small entrepreneurs,” PM Modi said.
He also inaugurated modern residential complexes in Sarojini Nagar for government employees, stressing that safe and comfortable living conditions are integral to motivating those who work tirelessly for the nation. The Prime Minister reiterated that the development model focuses on swift implementation and tangible results , ensuring projects move rapidly from planning to execution.
Concluding his address, PM Modi described Delhi as a historic city embracing a transformative era, with infrastructure, connectivity, and welfare schemes aligning to create a better quality of life. “The self-confidence of New India will guide us toward a developed future, and every family in Delhi will see a more prosperous and convenient life,” he added, calling on citizens to collectively contribute to the capital’s growth.
