PM Modi Launches 100-Week Anti-Drug Drive, Urges Youth to Choose a Healthy Future

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, calling upon young Indians to reject substance abuse and become active partners in building a healthier, stronger nation.

Addressing the virtual launch, the Prime Minister warned that while drugs may offer a temporary “high”, they ultimately destroy careers, relationships and personal well-being. “Drugs can give you a high for some time, but make your entire career and personal life low,” he said, urging youngsters to pledge against addiction.

Highlighting the importance of a fit and confident youth population for a Developed India, Modi said physical and mental wellness are essential to achieving the country’s long-term aspirations. He also alleged that hostile nations exploit drug trafficking as part of broader terror strategies because they understand that India’s youth are its greatest strength.

The Prime Minister appealed to society to end the stigma surrounding recovering addicts, describing those who overcome addiction as fighters deserving respect and a second chance. Families, he said, should openly support affected children instead of concealing addiction due to social pressure, while seeking timely medical and professional help.

The campaign marks the beginning of a 100-week nationwide Jan Bhagidari initiative, with activities scheduled every Sunday to spread awareness and encourage healthier lifestyles. Sports events, meditation sessions, cultural programmes, walkathons, street plays, discussions, art competitions and community outreach will be organised across the country.

Modi said addiction inflicts pain far beyond the individual, shattering the dreams and emotional well-being of entire families. He reiterated that the government is intensifying its crackdown on drug trafficking, noting that arrests have increased significantly and narcotics worth thousands of crores of rupees have been seized.

Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the initiative builds upon the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, launched in 2020, and seeks to inspire young people to become ambassadors of positive social change while strengthening India’s collective resolve for a drug-free future.
