PM Modi inaugurates ₹50,000 Crore development projects in Odisha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹50,000 crore in Jharsuguda, Odisha, on 27 September 2025. Addressing dignitaries, he emphasized Odisha’s rapid progress under the combined efforts of the Central and State governments and reaffirmed the administration’s focus on serving the poor, Dalits, backward classes, and tribal communities.

Coinciding with the Navratri festival, the PM paid homage to Maa Samalei and Maa Ramachandi and greeted the public, especially mothers and sisters, acknowledging their blessings as a source of strength. He recalled Odisha’s political mandate 18 months ago and highlighted the state’s momentum in education, skill development, healthcare, and connectivity projects.

Indigenous 4G Network to transform connectivity

A major highlight was the launch of BSNL’s fully indigenous 4G technology, making India one of the top five countries globally with end-to-end domestic 4G capability. Over 97,500 mobile towers, including 92,600 by BSNL, will connect around 26,700 previously unconnected villages and serve over 20 lakh subscribers. Many towers are solar-powered, creating India’s largest green telecom infrastructure cluster.

While 5G is largely available in urban areas, this 4G rollout is crucial for rural, tribal, and remote regions, ensuring digital inclusion, online education, telemedicine, and secure communication for armed forces. The initiative also creates employment in network operations, tower maintenance, and local digital services.

Industrial growth and self-reliance

The PM announced two semiconductor units and a semiconductor park in Odisha to boost chip manufacturing. A ₹70,000 crore shipbuilding package is expected to attract ₹4.5 lakh crore in investments and generate millions of jobs in steel, machinery, electronics, and manufacturing, supporting small and cottage industries.

Education and skill development

Foundation stones were laid for the expansion of eight IITs across India—Tirupati, Palakkad, Bhilai, Jammu, Dharwad, Jodhpur, Patna, and Indore—to accommodate 10,000 new students and establish research parks. The MERITE scheme was launched to modernize 275 state engineering and polytechnic institutions.

The Odisha Skill Development Project Phase II will upgrade ITIs, establish World Skill Centres, and create advanced technical training facilities. Wi-Fi facilities in 130 higher education institutions will benefit over 2.5 lakh students.

Healthcare and Social Welfare

Healthcare infrastructure received a boost with the upgradation of MKCG Medical College (Berhampur) and VIMSAR (Sambalpur) into super-speciality hospitals, enhancing bed capacity, trauma care, maternal and child health services, and academic facilities.

On social welfare, sanction orders under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana were distributed to 50,000 families, providing pucca homes and financial assistance to marginalized and vulnerable groups.

Boosting connectivity and Economic growth

PM Modi highlighted the benefits of GST reforms and tax savings for farmers and households in Odisha. Connectivity initiatives, including the Amrit Bharat Express and modernized airports, combined with higher revenue from minerals, position Odisha on an accelerated growth trajectory.
