PM Modi Distributes 51,000 Jobs Under Rozgar Mela, Recruitment Drive Crosses 10 Lakh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday distributed 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited candidates across the country under the 19th edition of the Rozgar Mela, with the nationwide recruitment initiative crossing the milestone of more than 10 lakh government jobs since its launch.

The programme was organised at the B.C. Roy Auditorium of Sealdah Railway Station in Kolkata and was connected to the national event addressed by the Prime Minister through video conferencing.

The Rozgar Mela initiative was launched by the Union Government in October 2022 as part of a mission-mode recruitment campaign aimed at filling vacancies across various Central Government ministries, departments and public sector organisations. The initiative was launched with a target of providing 10 lakh jobs and has since become one of the government’s flagship employment generation programmes.

The Kolkata event was attended by West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari as the chief guest and Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region Sukanta Majumdar as the guest of honour. Eastern Railway General Manager Milind Deouskar, Divisional Railway Manager Rajiv Saxena and several senior railway officials were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Sukanta Majumdar said the Central Government was conducting recruitment in a transparent and corruption-free manner , ensuring equal opportunities for deserving candidates across the country. He said employment generation remained an important component of the government’s vision of building a “Viksit Bharat 2047”.

The minister also highlighted the rapid expansion of railway infrastructure in West Bengal in recent years. According to him, more than 100 Amrit Bharat railway stations are being developed in the state, while six Vande Bharat Express trains have already been introduced in West Bengal.

Majumdar further said that developmental and infrastructure projects would progress faster after the establishment of a “double-engine government”, adding that issues related to land acquisition and administrative clearances could be resolved more efficiently.

Speaking at the programme, Suvendu Adhikari said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had provided a new sense of confidence and direction to the youth of the country through initiatives such as the Rozgar Mela. He stressed the importance of conducting recruitments strictly on the basis of merit, transparency and constitutional provisions, including reservation policies.

Officials during the programme also highlighted several ongoing railway development initiatives in West Bengal. It was informed that the Railway Ministry has sanctioned 61 railway projects for the state and that several long-pending land-related issues affecting railway infrastructure projects have been resolved in recent years.

Progress on the Joka–Dumdum Metro corridor was also reviewed during the event, with officials stating that work on the metro project is progressing at full pace.

The Rozgar Mela recruitment drive has been conducted regularly in multiple cities across India since 2022. Appointment letters are issued to candidates selected for various departments including Railways, Home Affairs, Posts, Health, Financial Services, Education and other ministries.

The newly recruited candidates joining through the programme are appointed in organisations such as the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Posts, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services and several other departments and public institutions.

Apart from West Bengal, Rozgar Mela programmes have also been organised in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as part of the nationwide recruitment initiative.

In Telangana, one of the major Rozgar Mela events was held at Rail Kalarang in Secunderabad during the 16th edition of the programme in July 2025, where Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy distributed appointment letters to selected candidates. Hyderabad and Secunderabad have hosted multiple editions connected virtually with the Prime Minister’s national address.

Similarly, Rozgar Mela events have also been conducted in Andhra Pradesh at central government and railway establishments, where candidates received appointment letters under the Centre’s recruitment campaign.

According to official figures shared during the programme, more than 10 lakh appointment letters have now been distributed nationwide through successive editions of the Rozgar Mela, reflecting the government’s focus on employment generation and faster recruitment into public services.

The event concluded with officials reiterating the Union Government’s emphasis on transparent recruitment, youth empowerment and accelerated infrastructure development as part of its broader vision of building a developed and self-reliant India.
