PM Modi Calls for Unity as India Navigates Uncertain Global Conditions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday signaled a period of uncertainty ahead, warning that the escalating West Asia crisis could pose a serious test for India’s economic stability and social resilience . Addressing the Rajya Sabha, he outlined a proactive roadmap, announcing the formation of seven empowered groups to steer the country through potential disruptions.

The conflict, he noted, is already sending shockwaves through global markets , particularly in energy and commodities . For a country heavily dependent on imports, especially crude oil, even minor disturbances in key routes like the Strait of Hormuz could have significant consequences. Rising fuel prices , supply chain bottlenecks , and inflationary pressures are among the immediate concerns.

To counter these risks, the government is adopting a multi-layered strategy . The newly formed teams will focus on ensuring the steady availability of fuel, gas, and fertilizer supply , while also monitoring inflation and logistics networks . Drawing from the coordinated response seen during the COVID-19 pandemic , Modi called for a unified Team India approach, urging states and the Centre to work in close coordination.

At the same time, India is actively engaging with major global stakeholders, including Iran, Israel, and the United States, pushing for diplomacy and de-escalation . The Prime Minister stressed that dialogue remains the only sustainable path to restoring stability in the region.

Domestically, the focus is on minimizing the impact on vulnerable sections. Modi warned that poor households , daily wage earners , and migrant workers could be hit hardest if prices rise or supplies tighten. States have been asked to ensure uninterrupted distribution of essential goods and timely implementation of welfare schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana .

He also issued a stern warning against black marketing and hoarding , calling for strict enforcement to prevent artificial shortages. Monitoring systems, he said, must remain alert and responsive.
