Philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ More relevant amid global challenges: President Murmu
President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said that in an era marked by global uncertainties and rising challenges, the ancient Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ meaning the world is one family has become increasingly significant for fostering peace, unity and collective responsibility.
She was addressing the launch of the Brahma Kumaris’ annual global theme for 2025–26, titled “Meditation for World Unity and Trust” , held at the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University campus in Lucknow. The event witnessed spiritual leaders, scholars, youth delegates and social workers from across the country, focusing on meditation and spiritual practices as tools to rebuild trust in a fragmented world.
President Murmu said that India’s civilisational ideals have always promoted harmony, coexistence and the welfare of all, which are now more vital due to global crises such as conflicts, climate change, mistrust among nations and mental health challenges.
“In today's world, which is facing uncertainties and global challenges, this message becomes more relevant than ever. Humanity is interconnected, and the problems we face cannot be fought in isolation,” she said.
Highlighting the role of spirituality in nurturing compassion and understanding, Murmu praised the Brahma Kumaris for promoting meditation, peace education, and value-based living. She said that meditation can help individuals rise above divisions of religion, nationality, and culture, and contribute to global harmony.
“The spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam reminds us that the world is a single family bound by shared destiny. We must embrace trust, empathy and unity to move forward,” she added.
The event also featured sessions on mindfulness, interfaith harmony, and global peace-building, with participants taking a collective pledge to promote the message of unity and trust in their communities.
