Pensioners can go digital this November
This November, India’s pensioners are in for a digital boost. The Centre has announced the largest-ever Digital Life Certificate (DLC) campaign, aimed at making pension submission seamless, secure, and inclusive. Scheduled from November 1 to 30, the initiative will cover all districts and sub-divisional headquarters across the country, ensuring no pensioner is left behind.
Pensioners are required to submit a life certificate every year to continue receiving their pension. Traditionally, this has involved visiting banks or government offices, often a cumbersome process for senior citizens. The DLC campaign 4.0 transforms this routine by enabling digital submissions, with a strong emphasis on face authentication technology. This ensures a secure, fraud-free verification process while providing convenience for those who find travel or long queues challenging.
The scale of this campaign is unprecedented. With a target of two crore digital certificates, it surpasses previous efforts, which recorded 1.62 crore DLCs, including 50 lakh through face authentication. Over 1,900 camps were organized earlier across more than 800 districts, involving banks, the India Post Payments Bank, government departments, and Pensioners’ Welfare Associations. For November, the plan includes camps in 1,600 districts and sub-divisional centers, along with doorstep services for very senior and differently-abled pensioners.
A high-level meeting chaired by V Srinivas, Secretary (Pension), underscored meticulous planning, daily targets, and coordination with 19 pension-disbursing banks. Each bank has assured readiness to support this digital revolution, highlighting a shift in government services from paperwork to a citizen-friendly, technology-driven model.
The campaign also emphasizes awareness. Ahead of November, banks and IPPB will launch a massive outreach effort through SMS, WhatsApp, social media, banners, and local media, ensuring that even those unfamiliar with digital tools can access this facility. The initiative is more than a convenience; it reflects India’s broader push toward digital governance, efficiency, and inclusivity.
