Pawan Kalyan Orders Probe into Illegal Mining at Panchadarla Hills, Seeks 'No Mining Zone' Status

Pawan Kalyan has ordered a comprehensive investigation into alleged illegal mining at the ecologically sensitive Panchadarla Hills in Anakapalli district, directing officials to initiate stringent action if environmental violations are confirmed. He also proposed declaring the entire hill region a "No Mining Zone" to safeguard its ecological, historical and religious significance.

The move follows complaints over gravel excavation on government revenue land in the Panchadarla Hills area. Pawan Kalyan reviewed the matter with the Anakapalli District Collector and senior officials of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) before examining a preliminary inquiry report. He directed authorities to submit a detailed report and take immediate steps to protect the fragile ecosystem.

According to the preliminary findings, the mining company allegedly carried out gravel and soil excavation in violation of environmental norms despite obtaining the required permissions. Taking serious note of the report, Pawan Kalyan instructed officials to impose a substantial environmental compensation penalty, initiate legal proceedings against the company and ensure it bears the full cost of restoring the environmental damage.

He also expressed concern that the mining activity could endanger the Sri Uma Dharmalingeswara Swamy Temple, a centuries-old shrine, and the region's natural perennial springs, which are regarded as an important ecological and cultural asset. He directed officials to prioritise the protection of the temple and its surrounding environment.

The Deputy Chief Minister further ordered a scientific study into reports of changes in the colour of the spring water. Experts from the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) will be invited to examine the origin of the springs and recommend measures to preserve the natural water flow.

Calling ancient temples and natural ecosystems part of Andhra Pradesh's heritage, Pawan Kalyan directed the Archaeology and Endowments Departments to prepare a joint conservation plan. He also instructed officials to revoke the company's Environmental Clearance (EC), Consent for Establishment (CFE) and Consent for Operation (CFO) if the alleged violations are confirmed.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to environmental conservation and heritage protection, Pawan Kalyan said illegal mining would not be tolerated and that further legal action would follow after the final inquiry report is submitted.
