Pawan Kalyan Inaugurates Model Pond, Urban Forest Projects in Pithapuram

Rural water bodies should evolve into community spaces that encourage physical activity, recreation and healthier lifestyles, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said, emphasising the need to combine environmental improvement with public amenities.

Pawan Kalyan made the remarks after inaugurating the Maisamma pond, walking track and children’s park at Fakruddinpalem in the Pithapuram Assembly constituency. The facilities were developed at a cost of Rs 73 lakh, with the pond being designed as a model project that combines environmental improvement with public amenities.

A walking track was laid around the strengthened pond bund, while an open-air gym was established for women, youth and senior citizens. A children’s park, flag mast and extensive plantation were also added to create an attractive public space for residents. Pawan Kalyan inaugurated the children’s park along with local children and interacted with them.

He said such projects could improve the quality of life in rural areas by creating spaces for recreation and physical activity. He also stressed the importance of environmental protection, expanding green cover and promoting public health through similar initiatives.

As part of the programme, 11 ponds in the Pithapuram constituency are being developed at a cost of Rs 6 crore. Pawan Kalyan unveiled the project plaque and visited a gallery showcasing 14 developed ponds in Kakinada district. He also walked along the pond bund and enquired about the age and scientific names of several trees.

Officials said 105 ponds across Andhra Pradesh are being beautified at a cost of Rs 50 crore with support under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY). More than half of the works have been completed, with the remaining projects targeted for completion by the end of the month.

Before the inauguration, Pawan Kalyan offered prayers at the Maisamma temple and inspected a Shiva idol being installed in the pond. He also visited a Vinayaka temple, interacted with villagers, received petitions and inspected village secretariat and waste-management facilities.

Later, he inaugurated Peethikapuravanam, an urban forest developed across six acres at a cost of Rs 1.83 crore under the Nagar Van Yojana. The former dumping yard has been transformed into a green space featuring a Miyawaki plantation, butterfly park, Nakshatravanam, Shiv Panchayatan Vanam and a large pond.

Officials said 18 urban forests developed across the State at a cost of Rs 36 crore have already been opened to the public.
