Pawan Kalyan escapes serious accident after alert move under low-hanging overhead electric line

Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan narrowly escaped a potential electric shock while greeting supporters in Kondagattu, Jagtial district. The incident occurred after he attended a Jana Sena workers’ meeting and later stood atop his vehicle to acknowledge crowds lining the road during his return.

As the vehicle moved slowly through a crowded stretch, Pawan Kalyan suddenly noticed a low-hanging overhead electric distribution line crossing the route. Such lines are typically rated between 230 and 415 volts in residential areas, though in some cases they can carry up to 11 kV , making them extremely dangerous and always live . Reacting instantly, he bent down just in time , narrowly avoiding contact. The moment caused brief panic among supporters and security personnel, with many later stating that the risk could have been avoided had security teams alerted him earlier.

Earlier in the day, Pawan Kalyan visited the Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple at Kondagattu, where he offered special prayers. He also laid the foundation stone for a major temple development project funded by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams . The project, estimated at around Rs 35.19 crore , includes the construction of a 96-room guesthouse and a large Deeksha mandapam , or vow-breaking hall, capable of accommodating nearly 2,000 devotees. The initiative aims to improve pilgrim amenities and ease congestion at one of the region’s most prominent religious centres.

The close call revived memories of a past incident, as it may be recalled that Pawan Kalyan suffered a mild electric shock in 2009 during the launch of a political campaign led by Chiranjeevi. Supporters said the latest incident was particularly alarming given that history.

Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements were made for Pawan Kalyan’s visit to Kondagattu. District police officials deployed around 1,200 personnel to manage the large turnout and ensure his safety. Despite the heavy security presence, the incident has once again raised questions over safety preparedness during high-profile public appearances, especially when leaders interact closely with crowds while standing on moving vehicles.
