Parliament Gets Two New Faces! Rajya Sabha Chairman Administers Oath to New MPs

Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday administered the oath of office to two newly elected members of the Upper House during a ceremony held at Parliament House.

The two members sworn in were Mansoor Ali Khan , representing Karnataka , and Rajneesh Kumar Agrawal , representing Madhya Pradesh . With the oath-taking ceremony, both leaders formally assumed their responsibilities as members of the Rajya Sabha.

During the proceedings, Mansoor Ali Khan took the oath in English , while Rajneesh Kumar Agrawal chose to take the oath in Hindi .

The ceremony was attended by several senior dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh , Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Information & Broadcasting L. Murugan , Congress Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh , and Rajya Sabha Secretary General P.C. Mody , along with other senior officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

The oath-taking marks the formal induction of the two newly elected members into the Upper House, enabling them to participate in parliamentary proceedings, debates and legislative business. Such ceremonies are a constitutional requirement before elected members can perform their duties in Parliament.

The Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Parliament, plays a crucial role in reviewing legislation, representing the interests of states and Union Territories, and contributing to discussions on national policy. The induction of new members ensures continued representation of their respective states in the House.

With the completion of Wednesday's oath ceremony, both Mansoor Ali Khan and Rajneesh Kumar Agrawal are now set to begin their parliamentary tenure and participate in the upcoming legislative proceedings.
