Punjab police arrested Shamsher Singh and his wife Preetpal Kaur , the parents of foreign‑based gangster Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar , on Monday in connection with a 2024 extortion case in Muktsar district.

The FIR was filed last year by Satnam Singh , a resident of Udekaran village, who alleged that he received threatening calls demanding ₹50 lakh . The caller, claiming ties to Brar’s gang network, warned of severe consequences if the ransom was not paid. Authorities allege that the accused parents acted as local facilitators in the extortion scheme, providing logistical or communicative support linked to their son’s criminal network.

The complaint prompted police to register charges under relevant sections covering threats, extortion, and attempted culpable homicide . During the investigation, officials recovered communication devices and documents believed to be related to the extortion activity.

The arrests took place near Amritsar, where the couple had reportedly been staying. They were presented before the Muktsar district court, which is expected to consider judicial remand for further investigation, including tracing financial trails and uncovering possible links to organized crime activities.

This operation is part of Punjab police’s larger crackdown against organized crime syndicates operating with overseas connections. Over the past year, police have mapped approximately 1,200 associates and 600 family members of 60 foreign‑based gangsters involved in extortion, arms trafficking, and other criminal activities.

Goldy Brar, currently believed to be in the United States , is a Canada‑based gangster wanted in India on multiple charges, including the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022 . He publicly admitted responsibility for the killing. Brar was previously affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang but now operates under the Brar-Rohit Godara-Kala Jatheri gang . In 2024, he was designated a terrorist under the anti-terror law for smuggling high-grade arms and ammunition for use in targeted killings in India.

Punjab police officials stated that efforts to bring Brar back to India are ongoing through international channels, including extradition processes and coordination with global law enforcement agencies. Muktsar SSP Abhimanyu Rana said the arrests demonstrate the police’s commitment to dismantling not only fugitive gangsters but also their support networks, thereby curbing extortion and organized crime in the state.
