Parcel Explodes Inside Courier Van in Latur, One Seriously Injured, Police Begin Probe

One person sustained serious burn injuries after a parcel exploded inside a courier company’s pick-up van in Maharashtra’s Latur district on Saturday morning, prompting police to launch an investigation.

The incident occurred around 9.30 am when parcels were being unloaded from the vehicle, an official said.

The explosion produced a loud sound and smoke emanated from the vehicle’s cargo carrier, triggering panic in the surrounding area. An employee engaged in unloading the parcels was seriously injured in the blast, the official said.

“The employee has sustained serious burn injuries. He has been admitted to a private hospital nearby,” the official said. Following the incident, a team from the Shivajinagar police station reached the spot and initiated a probe to ascertain the circumstances that led to the explosion.

Police are examining all possible angles as part of the investigation. The official said the blast could have been caused by several factors, including firecrackers, inflammable chemicals or battery-related items carried among the parcels.

Given that the incident occurred during the Diwali festive season, the possibility of firecrackers being responsible for the explosion is also being examined. However, authorities have not confirmed the cause of the blast so far.

The investigation is expected to establish the nature of the parcel and determine what triggered the explosion while the packages were being unloaded from the courier vehicle.
