Panchatantra Stories to Promote Critical Thinking, Values Among Students: Joshi
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday launched the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Panchatantra Pariyojana, aimed at integrating India's civilisational heritage and traditional knowledge into the education system.
Drawing on the ancient Indian collection of animal fables, the Panchatantra, the initiative seeks to develop essential life skills among young learners, including leadership, critical thinking, moral values and responsible citizenship.
Speaking at the launch, Joshi said India's education ecosystem was advancing through the National Education Policy (NEP), which combines modern innovation with traditional Indian knowledge.
"India's education ecosystem is advancing through new National Education Policy (NEP), blending modern innovation with the timeless wisdom of Bharatiya knowledge traditions," he said.
Joshi described the initiative as a significant step towards incorporating India's rich civilisational heritage into education while nurturing values that contribute to the overall development of students.
The Panchatantra's animal characters and moral lessons offer an engaging way to explore human behaviour, ethical choices and decision-making. By incorporating these narratives into learning, the initiative aims to encourage students to think critically, understand moral principles and develop leadership qualities.
The approach seeks to connect young learners with India's cultural and intellectual heritage while promoting skills relevant to their personal and social development.
At the event, Joshi also inaugurated a new academic building at the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in New Delhi. The institution focuses on educational planning, administration and policy-related research.
